ENVIRONMENT
At Roots, we take consideration for the environment very seriously. Roots teaches our students the importance of maintaining a healthy planet. As a result, we have engaged in projects such as creating recycling bins and planting borders out of disused plastics.
Promoting recycling and reuse (Recycle plastic bottles)
“When I was working as a tour guide in Cambodia, I used to talk about the beautiful culture, friendly people, and stunning natural beauty of the country. However, one thing that bothered me was that many locals would litter and throw plastic bottles even in areas where there were trash bins available. This habit often frustrated international travelers visiting the country,” said Sarou, founder of Roots Organization.
To address this issue, our school has taken the initiative to educate students about reducing plastic waste. Our teachers and class leaders have encouraged students to work together to collect and save empty plastic bottles and bags found on the school premises. We then wash and reuse them for various purposes, such as school decorations, building classroom walls, creating bottle bins, growing flowers to hang under trees or walls, and more.
We hope to promote sustainability and encourage responsible waste management among our students by reusing these materials. We hope our efforts will inspire others to join us in reducing waste and preserving the beauty of Cambodia.”
Promoting recycling and reuse
Old motorbike tyre recycle
This project involves recycling tyres to create beautiful and eco-friendly spaces in our community. We also aim to educate locals, parents, and children about the importance of recycling and how it can benefit our society.
In the past, people used to throw away old items and purchase new ones without realizing the negative environmental impact. However, with this project, we have discovered new ways to creatively reuse old materials, such as building decorations for our school fence, making rubber mats, and creating beautiful gardens.
We are proud to contribute to our community by reusing and recycling old materials and hope to inspire others to do the same.
HYGIENE
Roots Cambodia is grateful to the NGO Eco Soap Bank for their generous contribution of free soap donations to Roots Cambodia for all our students. Thanks to our donors’ support, we were able to install a water pump, which has been instrumental in promoting hygiene awareness among our students.
SUSTAINABILITY
Roots is constantly looking for ways to minimize its impact on the planet.
One of the ways we have been able to do so is through initiatives such as solar power, which provides additional outside lighting for the students.
Roots School is committed to minimizing its impact on the planet. To this end, we have implemented several initiatives, including solar power, which provides additional outside lighting for the students.
We believe that it is our responsibility to lead by example and show that sustainable practices are both possible and beneficial.
Roots School is committed to minimizing its impact on the planet.

FRIENDS TEACH FRINEDS
Roots Cambodia offers teaching positions to its exceptional graduates. These students began learning English with Roots in 2015 and now volunteer to impart their knowledge and abilities to younger learners, gaining valuable experience in teaching and insights into leading a classroom. The program provides an excellent opportunity for these students to develop their skills and contribute to their community.
