Description
Roots Cambodia’s noble objective for 2024 was to reinstate the Kanhchor Village Learning Centre.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Roots Cambodia had three learning centres in Rolous, Kanhchor, and Tarprak, providing education and learning opportunities for rural communities. However, due to the pandemic, they were forced to close two learning centres and sustain only one in Rolous, which left the students in Kanhchor and Tarprak without access to quality education.
The closure of the learning centres caused significant disruption to the education of children in the rural areas, who were already at a disadvantage compared to their urban counterparts. Therefore, Roots Cambodia is taking smaller steps and aiming to fully reopen the Kanhchor Centre as soon as possible to get back on track with providing learning opportunities for the areas that lost traction.
The Kanhchor site has been empty, silent, and lifeless since its closure during COVID-19. The site requires significant refurbishing, including furniture, minor fittings and fixes, decorations, and plenty of learning materials, books, and stationery. In addition, they need three teachers to manage the centre and part-time assistants to help with younger groups.
The total cost to reopen the Kanhchor centre is USD 4,000, which may seem like a small amount to some, but it means a lot for the children and their families who will benefit from having access to quality education.
Roots Cambodia would appreciate any help or contributions towards achieving this goal, and they thank you for your support.
