On May 2nd, 2024, I, Sarou, led a group of volunteer teachers and student volunteers at our Roots Community Organization School.
Our aim is to encourage students to attend more frequently and develop good study habits. We want to teach them to interpret books as friends, develop good reading habits, and read books to benefit their future.
Compared to those children in town, we understand and appreciate that studying in rural areas can be challenging for poorer students, as most parents are busy trying to earn an income than focussing on their children’s education, . Therefore, we need students to volunteer for library work and collaborate with teachers to open our mobile library daily. This way, other students will have the opportunity to read before class. The student leader will set up tables and chairs to read the diary and attend regularly.
One of our pressing needs is to expand our library collection. We believe that access to a wide range of books is crucial for fostering a love for reading and improving educational outcomes. We are reaching out to national and international donors, inviting them to join us and contribute to this important endeavour.
While it is true that our school centre currently faces resource limitations, we remain steadfast in our belief in a brighter future for our rural students. We are committed to overcoming these challenges and providing the best possible learning environment for our students.
