Our Purpose of Reading for Cambodia
“Our Reading Club for Cambodia exists because we believe every child deserves the joy of books and the power of knowledge. In rural Cambodia, reading is not just an activity — it’s a pathway to opportunity, confidence, and a brighter future.”
Our Purpose
• To inspire a reading culture: Many rural students have limited access to books beyond their school textbooks. Our club opens the door to imagination, knowledge, and lifelong learning.
• To build strong foundations: Reading improves language skills, comprehension, and critical thinking — essential for education and life.
• Low literacy challenges: In some rural areas of Cambodia, students struggle with reading fluency and comprehension because of limited resources.
• Limited access to books: Many children grow up without storybooks at home, so they only read in class — and sometimes not at all outside of school.
Benefits for Students
• Improved literacy skills: Regular reading sessions help children read faster, understand better, and enjoy learning.
• Boosted confidence: Children who read more often speak more confidently and share their ideas better.
• Broader horizons: Storybooks let them “travel” to different places, times, and cultures without leaving the classroom.
Community Impact
• Family and community involvement: The Reading Club can also inspire parents to value and support reading at home.
• Creating future leaders: Literate, confident children can become the next generation of problem-solvers and changemakers in Cambodia.
Why Our School Center Leads This
• We believe that education is more than memorizing lessons — it’s about curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
• The Reading Club is a safe, joyful space where children discover the power of words and stories.
• By starting here, we can model for other communities that a culture of reading changes futures.
